Invoicing and text-to-pay for local businesses

The job is finished, the customer is happy, and the money is still out there somewhere. This sends the invoice by text so they can pay from their phone before your truck leaves the street.

The problem

You did the work. Now comes the second job: getting paid

Getting paid should be the easy part. Instead, the invoice goes out days after the job, whenever you finally sit down at the laptop, and then the waiting starts. The customer says they will mail a check. The check does not come. Two weeks later you drive past their house and wonder if you should knock.

So you chase. A voicemail that tries not to sound annoyed. A second invoice with a bolder due date. Meanwhile you already paid for the materials, and payroll does not wait for the mail. Money you earned three weeks ago is sitting in somebody else's checking account, interest free.

Then the paperwork lands on you at night. Matching payments to jobs, remembering who paid cash, retyping totals into a spreadsheet at ten on a Sunday. You did not get into this trade to run a collections department from your kitchen table.

How it works

Paid before you pull out of the driveway

No laptop, no envelope, no thirty-day wait.

  1. 1

    The job wraps up

You finish, walk the customer through the work, and they are standing right there, happy, phone in hand.

  2. 2

The invoice goes out by text

A few taps on your phone sends an itemized invoice from your business number, with a pay link inside.

  3. 3

    They pay on the spot

Card or bank payment, right from their phone, while you are still loading the truck.

  4. 4

    The books update themselves

The payment is recorded, the customer gets a receipt, and the job is marked paid. Nothing to retype later.

What you get

Billing that fits in your pocket

  • Invoices from the driveway. Build and send an itemized invoice from your phone before you leave the job, while the work is still fresh in the customer's mind.
  • A pay link that works on any phone. The customer taps, pays by card or bank, and gets a receipt. No app to download, no account to create.
  • Automatic nudges on unpaid invoices. Polite reminders go out on a schedule you approve, so you are never the one who has to ask twice.
  • The whole money trail in one thread. Estimate, invoice, payment, receipt: all sitting in the same conversation with the customer, easy to find a year later.
  • Deposits and partial payments. Take half up front on bigger jobs and collect the rest at the end, without a separate tool or a sticky note to remember it.

Answers

Invoicing and text-to-pay questions

Will customers actually pay by text?

They already pay for everything else from their phone. The link opens a normal secure checkout page, and paying takes less effort than finding the checkbook. The customers who used to say they would mail it are exactly the ones who pay same day when the link is one tap away.

What about card processing fees?

Standard processor fees apply, the same as any card reader. Weigh that against weeks of float, chase calls, and the invoices that never get paid at all. You can also accept bank transfers through the same link, which cost less, or pass a card fee to the customer where your state allows it.

Can customers still pay by check or cash?

Of course. When someone hands you cash or a check, you mark the invoice paid in a couple of taps and the books stay straight. The pay link is there for everyone else, which turns out to be most people.

Is it safe for the customer?

Yes. The link opens a secure payment page run by an established processor. Card details never appear in the text thread, and you never see or handle their numbers. It is the same kind of checkout they use at the dentist or the vet.

When can I start invoicing by text?

Business texting has to be registered with the carriers first (A2P), and we file that for you during the build. Text invoicing turns on as soon as the registration is approved. Until then you can send the same invoices and pay links by email, which works from day one.
